As the storm clouds of war grew in 1938, Kate Smith, a fiercely patriotic American, and the biggest star on radio, was deeply worried about her country. She asked Irving Berlin if he could provide her a song that would re-ignite the spirit of American patriotism and faith. He said he had a song that he had written in 1918 that he had never published, and that she could have it. “God Bless America” became Kate Smith’s signature song. Smith and Berlin agreed that any money made from the song would be donated to the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts.
This clip is from the 1943 movie, “This is the Army.” Frank Sinatra said that when Kate Smith, whom he considered the greatest singer of his age, first sang this song on the radio, a million guys got “dust” in their eyes and had to wipe the tears the “dust” caused.

I just watched Kate Smith introduce “GOD BLESS AMERICA”.
It is such a wonderful song. I am so afraid for our great country. It is being torn down by our current government. How can we the people get it back as it should be, Christian, Free, and Unafraid. Is it possible?
