As the storm clouds of war grew in 1938, Kate Smith, a fiercely patriotic American, and the biggest star on radio, was deeply worried about her country. She asked Irving Berlin if he could provide her a song that would re-ignite the spirit of American patriotism and faith. He said he had a song that he had written in 1918 that he had never published, and that she could have it. “God Bless America” became Kate Smith’s signature song.

Reagan faced similar problems, but believed that it could be “morning in America”. On this anniversary, we should honor him by recommitting ourselves to the principles he championed.

Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004), born a century ago this month was one of the greatest and most beloved of American Presidents. The speech in the following video is an excerpt from his televised campaign address for the Goldwater presidential campaign on October 27, 1964. The title of Reagan’s speech was “A Time For Choosing.” It’s a doozy.
