New Seniors

65+ ain't what it used to be.

History has a way of taking the humanity out of major events, but these amazing home movies shot in Honolulu, Hawaii show the pure joy and relief that was felt when the Japanese finally surrendered.

This movie was created by Richard Sullivan, a Hawaiian filmmaker whose father shot the original film. He says, “65 years ago my dad shot this film along Kalakaua Ave. in Waikiki capturing spontaneous celebrations that broke out upon first hearing news of the Japanese surrender.”

Some of us here in the neighborhood got really choked up when we watched this one.
